The internet has made it a lot easier to be a small business owner these days. It has been one of my greatest resources since I ventured into the world of being a virtual/business assistant for small business owners almost 10 years ago and still proves to be just as useful for myself and my team every day. When I started Done By 5, I would read the blogs from “well-known” big companies but found myself turning to advice from fellow small business owners and bloggers more often than not. Blogs are a great resource for relatable and digestible information!
At Done By 5 we are always on the hunt for the best tools available to small businesses. The right tools make work easy and efficient for everyone and that keeps us happy, our clients happy, and our client’s clients happy. As virtual assistants, happy is all we could ask for. With the speed of tech these days, there is a solution for everything, and if you haven't found the app or software to solve that one pesky problem, chances are it's right around the corner.
Life as a virtual assistant can often look like a virtuosic balancing act. We create our own schedules and are always looking for more space in the day to help our clients propel their businesses forward. We use tools like teamwork, zoom.us, and Google drive to keep us all on the same page, share information and ideas, and keep documents organized. Each of us has our own ways of balancing our everyday schedules but there are a few consistent habits that everyone on the Done By 5 team uses to stay on track and organized. Here are some:
People use the new year as an opportunity to update and renew, which is why we make resolutions. We recognize that we need changes, or to take risks to make our lives better, so we can live happier, healthier lives. I had set my resolutions, but this change was beyond just a resolution, it was necessary for me, my business, and the small business I work for. I needed to create my ideal workspace.
2017 has been an amazing year for Done By 5, its’ team members, and clients. It has been a year of growth and change but most importantly, it has been extremely rewarding. First, we rebranded and built this new beautiful website and expanded our reach through our blog and social media, utilizing the skills we already do for our clients into our own business.
Here at Done by 5, we have created a series of blogs called “Done by 5, Done in 5.” These blogs will not only address the nitty gritty side of running your small business like how to prepare business letters and invoices, but also give tips and tools of the things we like or have helped us aid the small businesses we work with. They maybe “how to guides” or must have apps or maybe some great gift ideas for clients. The greatest part, it will be 5 steps, or 5 tools, or 5 likes. To kick off our first Done By 5, Done in 5, we thought we would give you tools on how to, well, be Done By 5.
I've worked with Michelle for years and known her even longer so I can attest to how awesome she is. But I thought it would be fun to interview her about her life outside of work, why she started Done By 5, and her favorite thing about helping small businesses thrive, so that you could get to know the power woman behind DB5. Hope you enjoy!
